COVID-19 Response
In 2020 and 2021, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Besen Family Foundation Trustees resolved to distribute almost double the usual amount of funds through a series of five Rapid Response Rounds.
The Foundation worked with charity and not-for-profit partners to understand the difficulties being faced in the community and focused on supporting vulnerable cohorts including those experiencing family violence and food insecurity, families locked down in public housing without resources to adequately support remote learning and the additional pressure on carers of family members living with a disability.
The Rapid Response Rounds also responded to the significant impact being felt in the Arts and Culture sector with grants supporting employment and development opportunities for individual artists, educational opportunities and other supports such as legal and mental health programs.
The Besen Family Foundation continues to be committed to working with our grant recipients and applicants to mitigate the ongoing impact and disruptions created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
